I decided to start writing a blog about educational and public policy issues because as a public school teacher with close to 20 years experience in early childhood education I often feel that the people making decisions and talking about teaching have no real experience in the field. The profession of teaching and education is one where everyone feels they have the knowledge to make informed decisions because they have all experienced it at some point in their lives.
Teachers, who live and breathe the job don’t often have the time or inclination to speak publicly about the issues or express their concerns or thoughts that they have about teaching. For many reasons, teachers have allowed others to take control of the profession and stay focused on the daily classroom instruction that they are responsible for. They put their heads down and slog through it, hoping the issues, changes and vitriol will just go away.
Having worked for the last 4 years as a local teachers’ association president and with a background in political science and public action, I decided one of the best ways to help create change is to be one of the voices speaking about educational issues from the perspective of a classroom teacher. I know how important it is to get involved in the debate and express my thoughts and am hoping a blog can help me to do that on a regular basis.
I want to have a dialogue with teachers, administrators and public policy makers about issues and policy in education. This blog will have the perspective of those on the front lines delivering instruction to children. I am hoping to accomplish a blog that people turn to when they want to discuss their thoughts and feelings about the top issues in public education today.

welcome to the blogosphere! I am a home schooler to two kids and then two our children attend public school. It’s not always easy to teach from home but I bet it’s even more challenging teaching a lot of children and dealing with parents and different personalities. Hats off to you for doing what you do!

Thank you Tasha! I have a lot of respect for home schoolers as well. It can’t be easy to come up with all those ideas, activities and supplies without public funding. How do you get the children to know/understand the separation between home time and schooling time?

You need to bring your blog to the attention of the policy makers in your local area, then send it to the county level, eventually going state wide with your blogging project. As you so accurately pointed out you have living experience in this profession that effects countless children growing up in this world!
Thank you for making the effort to educate future generations! Get your message up to the national congressional level. They seem to be more concerned with keeping their congress seats than anything else. They need to start focusing on the future of our country as a whole!
